2023 – Malachy Jones

Malachy’s essay, which has won the 2023 Jill Wilson Bursary, discussed the weakness in the 17th century justice system in England, highlighted by the case of the Campden Wonder – the supposed murder of William Harrison in 1660.

2022 – Angus Dunn

The winner of the 2022 Jill Wilson Bursary is Angus Dunn, a student at Chipping Campden Academy, for his essay addressing the question “Historians have disagreed about whether Oliver Cromwell’s actions were justified during his time as commander-in-chief of the New Model Army and Lord Protector, 1649-1658.  What is your view about whether Oliver Cromwell’s actions were justified during his time as commander-in-chief of the New Model Army and Lord Protector, 1649 – 1658?”
