Promoting local history

With the cancellation of so many events, it has fallen to CCHS to maintain the community window at the Co-op – which we are happy to do, as it provides interest for passers-by and promotes our work.
In the run-up to Christmas we said ‘Were you a little angel?’ and featured photos of Nativity plays put on in the 1950s onwards. We had some feedback from people who helped to name many of the participants, for our records.
This month we are commemorating the centenary of the unveiling of the town War Memorial, on Sunday 9th January 1921. War almost broke out again over the proposals for a suitable memorial but the end result pleased (nearly) everyone.
We would be pleased to hear from anyone who might help with the window display: it involves looking in our Archives for descriptions and photographs, creating the story and the layout. We are thinking of featuring Campden football teams next – it is really interesting to see what is in the Archives to make a story.
